Late Tuesday night, the Legislature gutted a bill about i= nmate firefighters and amended it into a bill designed to DESTROY= the Local Taxpayer Protection Act to Save Prop 13.

= Senate Bill 423 MUST BE STOPPED!

<= p style=3D"display: block;margin: 13px 0;line-height: 1.5;font-si= ze: 16px;color: #000000;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif= ">Her= e=E2=80=99s what SB 423 does: it makes tax relief for fire victim= s in the Pacific Palisades CONDITIONAL on our Save Prop. 13 initi= ative not qualifying for the ballot!
Here=E2=80=99s= the excerpt from the bill showing that relief for Palisades fire= victims from L.A.=E2=80=99s real estate transfer tax =E2=80=9Csh= all not become operative=E2=80=9D if our Save Prop. 13 ballot mea= sure (Initiative 25-0006A1 or earlier versions) goes forward:
SB 423 is also a giveaway to Los Angeles developers, and t= he Legislature=E2=80=99s plan seems to be to try to stop our init= iative by coercing or enticing those potential supporters to oppo= se our initiative and starve it of campaign funds.
<= span style=3D"background-color:transparent;color:#000000;">We can= =E2=80=99t let this happen. Our initiative is critically importan= t to protecting Proposition 13. Here=E2=80=99s what it does:
Requires a two-thirds vote to pass all local special tax= es, no exceptions
Bans and repeals transfer taxes (sale= s taxes on real estate) higher than 0.11 percent

These are provisions that were in Proposition 13= but have been weakened by court-created loopholes. The Local Taxpayer Protection Act to Save Proposition 13= closes those loopholes and will save taxpayers billions of= dollars.
Please call your representatives in the state A= ssembly and Senate TODAY and urge them to VOTE NO on SB 4= 23. You can look up their names and contact information = at findyourrep.legislature.= ca.gov.
