New York=E2=80=99s highest court has upheld Local Law 97=2C marking a majo=
r legal victory for climate action and affirming the City=E2=80=99s author=
ity to regulate building emissions. The ruling confirms that state climate=
 law does not block local governments from taking stronger action to reduc=
e pollution.
In 2024=2C in response to the effort to invalidate the law=2C Urban Green=
 joined allied organizations in filing a brief with the court to defend Lo=
cal Law 97. Today=E2=80=99s decision puts this challenge behind us=2C and=
 Local Law 97 implementation can move forward with clarity and momentum. U=
rban Green applauds the decision and remains committed to supporting smart=
=2C equitable solutions that help buildings meet the law=E2=80=99s goals.
