But then, near the end of the session, Bloomberg reported that the presiden= t is planning on easing export restrictions on semiconductors that were outlined by his predecessor, sending= chip stocks sharply higher and pulling the market to session highs. = The S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 ultimately closed up 0.4%, with the Russell 2000= gaining 0.3%.

  • The point was simple enough: Eddy Cue, the SVP for services at App= le, mused about potentially adding AI-powered search to his company=E2=80= =99s Safari browser. 
  • Well, let=E2=80=99s think this thing through. Last year, court documents revealed= that Google paid Apple $20 billion in 2022 to be the default search engine= in the Safari browser. If AI were replacing Google, then not only is that = a huge check to Google=E2=80=99s footprint, but it=E2=80=99s also money tha= t=E2=80=99s not walking through that door anymore. 
    • Cue=E2=80=99s comments appear t= o show that within Apple, execs see the shift to AI-powered search as inevi= table.

Inve= stors ran for the hills, sending Google=E2=80=99s stock down over 7%, pulli= ng the broader market down with it.

Disney stock soared yesterday after the Mouse House reported better-than-ex= pected earnings for its fiscal second quarter thanks to big strength in its parks bus= iness =E2=80=94 guess those ride closures aren=E2=80=99t that big a deal after all! = It=E2=80=99s not resting on the laurels of its existing business, either, a= lso announcing plans yesterday for a huge new park= and resort in Abu Dhabi in partnership with Miral.

Disney Experiences, which includes parks and cruises, is also continuing to= roll out big ships on the high seas, with plans to nearly double its fleet by 2030. D= isney=E2=80=99s ability to make money not just from its intellectual proper= ty but from its experiences may be why it=E2=80=99s also not seeing as big = a hit from Trump=E2=80=99s threats to put 100% tariffs on foreign-made movies.

Speaking of the silver screen = and its tinier TV cousin, though, Disney=E2=80=99s streaming business has n= otched its third straight quarter of profitability. Disney+ added 1.4 milli= on new subscriptions for a total of 126 million =E2=80=94 also above expect= ations. 

And as of this month, Disney seems to have broken the curse of =E2=80=9CCaptain Ame= rica: Brave New World=E2=80=9D with its latest Marvel release = of =E2=80=9CThunderbolts*,=E2=80=9D which raked in $162 million globa= lly in its opening weekend =E2=80=94 though the big difference= is actually not in the box office haul but in the largely positive reviews= from both critics and f= ans.
