A= n Eviction and Rent Freezes on the Docket

<= span style=3D"background-color:transparent;color:#000000;">Let=E2= =80=99s all join the LA city council meeting in person tomorrow a= s they decide on an eviction moratorium and rent freezes, in resp= onse to the fires in Los Angeles. We rarely ask for your particip= ation, but this is one that we hope you are able to attend. =

Here=E2=80=99s the agenda= for the LA City Council meeting tomorrow, Wednesday, J= anuary 29th at 10:00 AM. Please arrive before 10:00, if you are a= ble to attend. Were this to pass, it would be devastating, as you= know.

February 2024 was the first increase op= portunity since March 2020.
Now, one year later, they want t= o freeze the rent AGAIN, preventing the February 2025 increases f= rom going into effect. This will mean housing providers have had = ONE 4% rent increase in the last FIVE YEARS.

= Please call or send this to ALL the L.A. City Councilmemb= ers:

Please vote no on the re= nt freeze and eviction moratorium. This is not part of the soluti= on for those that have been displaced. We already have laws in pl= ace to combat price-gouging, and Special Motion 21 provides pro= tections for tenants that have taken in people and pets displaced= by the fires. Additionally, among those that have been displaced= and lost their homes, there are owners that would appreciate les= s rent control instead of more of it. We=E2=80=99ve had just one = rent increase in the last four years. Item 15 looks like an att= empt to take a catastrophic event and use it to drive the tenants= ' rights agenda. Remember that 60% opposed more rent control, bac= k in November. Please focus on getting the ground ready for const= ruction so that fire victims can rebuild on their properties.&nbs= p;
