Daylight in buildings can be a magical thing. With advances in the energy=

The challenge with daylighting is how to get good distribution of natural=
 light while controlling glare as the sun moves across the sky. The Daylig=
ht credit in LEED v4 and v4.1 aims to reward good daylighting by maximizin=
g the amount of occupied space that is well-lit but not overlit without an=
y electrical lighting. It offers three options=E2=80=94two simulation opti=
ons and direct measurement.

Various software tools can model light distribution in a digital model. Th=
is toolkit walks through the workflow using Climate Studio=2C but the prin=
ciples can be applied to other software packages as well. It focuses on Op=
tion 1 in the credit=2C which relies on two key metrics: spatial daylight=
 autonomy (sDA) and annual sunlight exposure (ASE). This table summarizes=
