Access to fresh=2C nutritious food help= s prevent chronic health conditions such as diabetes=2C heart disease=2C o= besity=2C and mental health. In Los Angeles County=2C almost one-fift= h of households and nearly one-third of low-income families are impacted b= y the lack of access to fresh=2C nutritious foods=2C according to a 2021&n= bsp;study by USC.

Since 2007=2C RootDown LA (RDLA) has been a strong presence in addressing= food insecurity and lack of access in South Los Angeles. Their efforts le= d to the U.S. Green Building Council California (USGBC-CA) selecting RDLA= =E2=80=99s KitchenPOD as the 2024 Environmental Justice Project. = ;
