We'd like to invite you to participate in the USGBC-LA Mentorship Prog= ram! One of the benefits of our unique community is the opportuni= ty to become a mentor through curated matchmaking and activities as part o= f the Green Building Corps (GBC) Internship.
Objective of the Mentorship Program: The USGBC-LA Mentors= hip Program is designed to connect established professionals with students= =2C recently graduated and/or emerging professionals to increase knowledge= of the green building industry=2C aid mentees in achieving their professi= onal goals and promote diversity=2C equity=2C and inclusion across the ind= ustry.

  • Duration and Commitment:= The mentoring relationship will last for no less than six (6) months. Men= tors will commit to at least one (1) hour per month as an advisor for the= selected mentee(s). However=2C it is recommended that Mentors commit to 2= sessions a month.

  • Format of Meetings: The f= irst meeting will be held at the Mentor Meet & Greet Session (date TBD= ). Subsequent =E2=80=98catch-ups=E2=80=99 can be via phone=2C video calls= =2C or coffee dates when possible=2C but should be in a mutually agreeable= location and format.

  • Progress Reporting: Throu= ghout the year=2C USGBC-LA staff will send surveys to program participants= to determine if the relationship is mutually beneficial if it=E2=80=99s w= orking well=2C and if there is anything that needs to be changed or addres= sed.

LA County has seen a 120% rise in repo= rted Legionnaires' disease=2C with over 1=2C000 cases being repor= ted between 2008 and 2022. Using estimates developed by the US Nation= al Academy of Sciences=2C the true disease burden in LA County is like= ly over 10=2C000 cases between 2008 and 2022. 

The disease is caused by the bacteria Legionella=2C which naturally occurs= in lakes=2C streams=2C rivers=2C and soil. In its natural environment=2C= it does not pose a significant public health risk. Legionella becomes a p= ublic health concern when the bacteria enters a complex building water sys= tem that allows it to amplify in an unnatural environment=2C and contamina= ted water droplets are released into the air and inhaled into the lungs.&n= bsp;
