 Healing Garden in the heart of Watts! We will honor and =E2=80=9Cgrow=E2=
=80=9D the community=E2=80=99s contributions to clean air. The Reverence P=
roject=2C the U.S. Green Building Council-Los Angeles (USGBC-LA)=2C and th=
e Watts Neighborhood Council=2C will:
1. Plant shading native and fruit tree canopy to offer reprieve for cyclis=
ts and pedestrians and be dedicated to survivors of violence
2. Plant large raised beds to combat the food scarcity in this food desert
3. Create a composting site to protect public health=2C as sanitation freq=
uently skips visits to Watts

We will honor Watts residents who go beyond celebrating Clean Air Day to l=
iving clean air lives. Residents keep pollutants from LA=E2=80=99s air by=
 walking=2C biking or scooting in the neighborhood and using public transi=
t or carpools for longer trips. These contributions can be onerous due to=
 the lack of cooling tree canopy and safe bike paths.

The new Rongxiang Xu Bioscience Innovation Center at Cal State LA houses f=
acilities to perform cutting-edge research=2C and the project also achieve=
d LEED Gold certification in 2020 for its innovative green design! It feat=
ures both wet and dry laboratories supported by MEP systems that maximize=
 energy and water efficiency while maintaining the safety requirements nee=
ded for sensitive research activities.

Some key sustainable features are:
- Showers and changing rooms to promote active transportation
- Roof with high solar reflectance to reduce the cooling load of the build=
ing
- Indoor air quality sensors to enhance occupant health
- Efficient irrigation fixtures and native plantings to reduce potable wat=
er used for landscaping

The project aims to spur economic development and act as a hub for the lif=
e sciences in the LA region.
