Mayor Eric Garcetti and City Attorney Mike Feuer have assembled a coalit= ion of law firms, bar associations and attorneys who will enhance their exi= sting pro bono commitments to legal aid organizations to provide COVID-19-r= elated legal services, including helping vulnerable tenants, domestic viole= nce victims and low income individuals with employment, consumer debt, and = bankruptcy matters.

Additionally,= they have partnered with Bet Tzedek Legal Services to build a new sup= port system for small businesses devastated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Many = LA Represents pro bono attorneys will provide assistance to small businesse= s least likely to have access to effective legal services as they confront = new workplace regulations, renegotiate commercial leases, apply for governm= ent relief programs, and navigate compliance with emergency health and safe= ty orders. On September 9th, the California=E2=80=99s Office of the Sm= all Business Advocate (CalOSBA), part of the Governor=E2=80=99s Off= ice of Business Economic Development (GO-Biz), announced the launch of = calosba.ca.gov= - a website that connects California=E2=80=99s small business communit= y with critical state and federal resources. 
 
Small business owners, entrepreneurs, and startups can acce= ss many resources like: 
  • Small business technical assistance centers located through= out California that offer specialized support for = no-cost or at a low-cost
  • Financing information including state and federal capital p= rograms and tax/credit incentive programs 
  • Business Learning Center that helps business owners navigat= e the varying stages of the business development process 
  • Permits, licenses, and regulations
  • Access to new markets, including e-commerce, international = trade, and procurement and supply chain programs

COVID-19 Business Comp= laint Portal
 
The City is working to ensure compliance with the City= 's Safer at Home Order. Violations of businesses to requirements for operat= ion as set forth in the order can now be reported using the complaint portal. The City Attorney's office will= review all reported potential violations. Other City personnel will educat= e businesses in violation of the requirements. Repeat violators will b= e subject to progressive enforcement penalties which range from citations t= o fines to water and power shut off. 
 
The complaint portal can also be used to file complaints re= garding the misuse of parks or public spaces, violations by skilled nursing= facilities, construction sites or landlords.
