The Reverence Project=E2= =80=99s Survivor=E2=80=99s Healing Garden will serve as a place o= f reflection and gathering for survivors of violent crime in the Watts nei= ghborhood of Los Angeles. Featuring native California vegetation=2C medita= tive trails=2C pergolas and art installations=2C this green space will fac= ilitate healing and restorative justice solutions among community members.=

Our main August project will be the construction of the gar= den pathway in front of the Reverence Project office. We will be working i= n the shade to beat the heat=2C but please remember to bring your reusable= water bottle.

The Survivor=E2=80=99= s Healing garden will represent innovation in conservation=2C improve LA= =E2=80=99s resilience=2C and protect human health. While LA actively prote= cts =E2=80=9Csensitive ecological areas=2C=E2=80=9D this project illustrat= es the sensitivity of the overbuilt areas of LA. Watts experiences tempera= tures 4.7=C2=B0F degrees hotter than the city average. The project will tr= ain Watts residents in the value of urban greenery and in the methods of c= ivic engagement that will help secure funding for more of it. In addition= to those actively engaged in its creation and our ongoing programming=2C= signage will educate passersby. Just as important=2C we will make efforts= to educate greater LA about the importance of equitably distributing urba= n greenery to the resilience of the region as a whole.

In 2021=2C the Skid Row Housing Trust=E2=80=99s Flor 301 Lofts project was= certified as LEED Platinum using the LEED for Homes Rating System=2C brin= ging 99 units of permanent supportive housing to disabled veterans and ind= ividuals experiencing homelessness. Some sustainable features were incorpo= rated that also provide additional stability for residents as part of a ho= using-first approach:

- A fully utilized rooftop=2C including solar water preheating=2C a solar= PV system=2C
and rooftop gardens for residents
- Trees and outdoor seating in a spacious=2C central courtyard=2C providin= g much-needed green therapeutic community space to Skid Row
