USGBC-LA + The Reverence Project's Survivor's Healing Garden Volunteer= Day
10:00am PT / Join us in person! 

Come join us for the groundbreaking of the 2022 Legacy Project! The= Reverence Project=E2=80=99s Survivor=E2=80=99s Healing Garden will serve= as a place of reflection and gathering for survivors of violent crime in= the Watts neighborhood of Los Angeles. Featuring native California vegeta= tion=2C meditative trails=2C pergolas=2C and art installations=2C this gre= en space will facilitate healing and restorative justice solutions among c= ommunity members.

Projects we will work on that day will be tree planting=2C bio= swale construction=2C trail layout=2C and more! The Survivor=E2=80=99s Hea= ling Garden will represent innovation in conservation=2C improve LA=E2=80= =99s resilience=2C and protect human health. While LA actively protects= =E2=80=9Csensitive ecological areas=2C=E2=80=9D this project illustrates= the sensitivity of the overbuilt areas of LA. Watts experiences temperatu= res 4.7=C2=B0F degrees hotter than the city average. The project will trai= n Watts residents in the value of urban greenery and in the methods of civ= ic engagement that will help secure funding for more of it. In addition to= those actively engaged in its creation and our ongoing programming=2C sig= nage will educate passersby observers. Just as important=2C we will make e= fforts to educate the greater LA community about the importance of equitab= ly distributing urban greenery to increase the resilience of the region as= a whole.
