Resilient Explorer: Sixth Grade Cultural Anthropology Exhibition On May 26, families, faculty, staff, and students across all divisions gathered in the Disney Family Pavilion for the annual Sixth Grade Cultural Anthropology Global Village Expo. =E2=80=9CIn Grade 6, our studies are centered around the essential question= s of =E2=80=98How can where a person lives affect who they are?=E2=80=99 and =E2= =80=98How can a person affect where they live?=E2=80=99=E2=80=9D said sixth grade teacher Ryan Bac= he. On Monday, May 16, fifth grade campers and their chaperones headed to = the Pali Institute! They spent three busy days hiking through the woods, bu= ilding shelters out of tree branches and logs, braving a high ropes course,= and learning outdoor survival skills.   • The fifth and sixth grade combined b= oys soccer team had an excellent start to the season and are undefeated to = date with strong wins over Campbell Hall 2-1 and Mirman 3-1.
  • Both the fifth and sixth grade baseb= all teams have enjoyed spring success and are fresh over powerful victories= .
  • Our seventh through eighth grade boy= s golf team enjoyed strong competition against Harvard Westlake, Oaks Chris= tian, and Campbell Hall. On Saturday, May 7, the team traveled to Sinaloa G= olf Course in Simi Valley for their Delphic League Golf Championship.
  • Our seventh and eighth grade basebal= l team played in a 3 team league this spring against Milken and Viewpoint.= =C2=A0
  • Our seventh and eighth grade boys te= nnis team had a fun season, competing in a very strong Delphic league again= st Campbell Hall, Chaminade, Oakwood, Oaks Christian, and Harvard Westlake.= Our Buckley Griffins excelled against some very tough league competition.<= /div>

Seventh and eighth graders in Irie De Lilly's Passion = Projects class spent the year exploring a self-selected passion for a deep = dive and presented their research to the community in May.   • Seventh grader Mia C. created a digi= tal cookbook titled =E2=80=9CMia=E2=80=99s Cookbook=E2=80=9D full of family= recipes she wanted to share with the community.=C2=A0
  • Eighth grader Oliver C. developed a = 3-D game using a scripting language and other softwares for the music, desi= gn, and more.=C2=A0
  • Seventh grader Emmaline E. designed = =E2=80=9CThe Green Community Project,=E2=80=9D a community with a lot of gr= een space for people facing housing insecurity.=C2=A0
  • Seventh grader Charlotte F. focused = her project on Model UN by researching the program and organizing a simplif= ied format of a Model UN simulation.=C2=A0
  • Seventh grader Caroline H. mapped th= e stars. As part of her research, Caroline went stargazing at Red Rock Cany= on State Park where she studied twenty constellations, learned stories abou= t the constellations, and developed accurate maps of what she observed.
  • Seventh grader Devyn K. explored rec= ipe creation over the course of her project and then created unique recipes= to share with friends and family.=C2=A0
  • Eighth grader John R. used his backg= round in music to learn music theory and produce an original song. With his= mentor, John wrote the lyrics and melody, recorded the song, created an al= bum cover, and formatted his song =E2=80=9CSketched Out.=E2=80=9D=C2=A0
  • Eighth grader Emmett S. learned how = to make origami, filmed a tutorial, and taught a class. To prepare, Emmett = dove into the history by researching the origin of the craft and the meanin= gs of the symbols.=C2=A0
  • Eighth grader Grover S. created G Ra= ck, a fashion design company. Grover researched the fashion industry to cre= ate eye-catching, high-quality hoodies.=C2=A0
  • Seventh grader Eliza W. produced =E2= =80=9CNo Waste Space,=E2=80=9D a guide to using less waste and options for = more environmentally friendly options. Eliza researched composting and food= waste before beginning her own no waste endeavor through a garden.

Resilient Ex= plorer: Sixth Grade Cultural Anthropology Exhibition

On May 26, families, faculty, staff, and students across a= ll divisions gathered in the Disney Family Pavilion for the annual Sixth Gr= ade Cultural Anthropology Global Village Expo.=C2=A0
=E2=80=9CIn Grade 6, our studies are centered around the e= ssential questions of =E2=80=98How can where a person lives affect who they= are?=E2=80=99 and =E2=80=98How can a person affect where they live?=E2=80= =99=E2=80=9D said sixth grade teacher Ryan Bache.=C2=A0
For 10 weeks of the school year, students spent time stepp= ing into the role of an anthropologist, learning about 15 different cultura= l aspects found in their selected regions. They researched religion and rit= uals, gender and gender roles, human rights, and food.=C2=A0
