Introducing sustainability to kids can be fun=2C engaging=2C interactive=
=2C and most importantly=2C empowering. Education around sustainability ca=
n inspire students to have a positive impact=2C and become more engaged wi=
th their communities while promoting thinking=2C planning=2C and problem-s=
olving skills.
- Green Schools Program -

The Green Schools Program (https://usgbc-la.org/initiative/green-schools/?=
mc_cid=3D1091ab2aeb&mc_eid=3DUNIQID)  is devoted to bringing the fundament=
als of sustainability education to K-12 students and schools in our region=
 through workshops=2C volunteers=2C and micro-grants to provide sustainabl=
e solutions for campuses.

The Sustainability Fundamentals education sessions consist of a high-level=
 overview of sustainability concepts for elementary and high school studen=
ts. The 90-minute workshop is delivered by experts from our member network=
 of sustainability professionals who introduce students to the goals=2C pr=
inciples=2C and practical applications of sustainability covering various=
 topics.

Elementary School:

Pop bottle ecosystem + conservation of energy & matter drawings

The pop bottle ecosystem is an interactive project that teaches students w=
here life exists and what is essential for a fully functioning ecosystem.=
 Kids will learn to study and analyze the flow of energy and matter in a c=
losed system through the creation of a terrarium.

Middle School:

Creating with waste

Creating a usable product from waste or unwanted items can turn trash into=
 treasure! This project will teach students the importance of reducing was=
te and increasing the useful life of existing resources. Students will bui=
ld products from scraps=2C waste=2C etc=2C to give a second life to them b=
eyond the landfill.

High School:

City planning design through sustainable practices-  3D model creation

Students begin applying skills and knowledge they have learned through the=
 curriculum to become =E2=80=9Ccity planners=E2=80=9D and upgrade a city b=
y applying sustainable design practices to creating the city layout=2C bui=
lding plans=2C and a 3D city model using various upcycled materials. Stude=
nts present their sustainable model and city design.
