I began writing this on an airplane between New York and Saudi Arabia. Though I edit a travel magazine, I haven’t done much traveling the past two years. And I’ve missed it — particularly big, transportive trips, those that push me far beyond my comfort zone. I’m happy to be on one such trip right now.
