We had constant food shortages. Such a poli= ce state approach may land shoplifters in jail=2C lock the doors and throw= away the keys=2C leaving us with more questions than answers. This trend= might spread to other once-great American cities=2C and it's unclear when= voters will push back. At some point the voters will rebel=2C but I don't= know that I will be living long enough to see that. Here's another concerning development: Zillow=2C aiming to be a one-stop shop for homebuyers=2C now offers the op= tion of a 1% down payment amid soaring interest rates. However=2C this doe= sn't address the housing affordability crisis; smaller down payments mean= larger monthly mortgage bills as borrowers accumulate more debt. With mor= e debts - now at 99% of the purchase price=2C and not the traditional 80%= or so - and with these very high interest rates=2C do you see the problem= s reminiscent of the 2008 subprime mortgage lending debacle to repeat? However=2C there's another facet to consider. Many believe that the reduct= ion in federal funding for mental health services during Ronald Reagan's a= dministration contributed to the homelessness issue. This lack of mental h= ealth support leaves these individuals with few options. I believe that is= true and if these people are mentally ill=2C then there are very few plac= es for them to go for help=2C society lacks enough mental institutions. After examining both sides of the coin=2C it's worth considering the "thir= d side" - the less obvious perspective. The answer is simple: the proliferation of cheap drugs=2C the legalization= of certain drugs=2C and the influx of inexpensive drugs across our southe= rn border have significantly altered our society and the way of our life.= I believe that almost anyone willing to work hard and avoid drugs=2C alco= hol=2C and any other mind-altering substances can avoid homelessness. Discussing the problems is easy=2C but finding solutions is complex. The c= urrent economic conditions have dimmed the light at the end of the tunnel.= Or have they? I believe we need new innovative people=2C minds from all w= alks of life=2C capable and willing of creating win-win solutions.
